UC BERKELEY SCHOOL OF LAW seeks a full-time Director of Professional Skills starting July 1, 2009. The position is an academic appointment requiring teaching, administrative and leadership abilities of the highest quality.
In consultation with the faculty and the Associate Dean, the Director will be responsible for managing and participating in the law school’s Professional Skills program, currently comprised of: 1) a first-year legal writing and oral advocacy program taught by full-time instructors, and 2) a wide range of upper-level advocacy, negotiation, and transactional courses taught primarily by part-time adjunct lecturers.
The Director will supervise closely the in-house instructors and adjunct lecturers to ensure a high-quality skills curriculum consistent with extant and emerging theories of teaching and practice. Over time, the
Director will develop a more robust program and work to integrate professional skills offerings with the law school’s clinics, research centers and general courses.
Excellent academic credentials, substantial teaching and practice experience, demonstrated administrative ability and high-quality writing are required.
