The membership of CLEA has approved three awards for an outstanding advocate for clinical teachers, for outstanding students, and for excellence in a public interest case or project. To learn more about each of the awards and submission deadlines click here.
Recipients of 2009 CLEA Awards:
Ann Shalleck of American University Washington College of Law is the recipient of the Award to an Outstanding Advocate for Clinical Teachers. This award recognizes those who have served as a voice for clinical teachers and contributed to the advancement of clinical legal education, particularly in the political arena.
CLEA's other award for Excellence in a Public Interest Case or Project is being awarded to University of Washington Environmental Law Clinic for its work on behalf of Native Alaskans impacted by the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill, culminating in the award winning documentary The 3rd Trustee: Native Alaska and the Big Spill.
Both awards will be presented at the AALS Clinical conference in Cleveland, OH at the Renaissance hotel during the lunch on Saturday, May 9th at 1 pm. Please join CLEA in congratulating these two exemplary recipients.
Congratulations to all students nominated for Outstanding Student Awards. You should be receiving student certificates in the mail.

Other Awards:
Other awards, such as the William Pincus Award and the Shanara Gilbert Award, are presented by the Awards Committee for the AALS Section on Clinical Legal Education each January at the AALS annual meeting; and each March at the AALS' Conference on Clinical Legal Education, respectively. Nominations for the William Pincus Award are usually accepted by October 1st of each year; the Shanara Gilbert Award by March 31st of each year.
