Albany Law Center for Excellence in Law Teaching (CELT) invites you to its Inaugural Conference:

“Setting and Assessing Learning Objectives from Day One.”

SAVE THE DATE:  March 30, 2012 (with registration and dinner the night before!)

INTENDED AUDIENCE:

  • Individuals interested in improving legal education
  • Individuals interested in breaking down the “silos” of doctrinal, clinical, “theoretical”, “practical” skills and “Legal Writing”/Lawyering faculty
  • Individuals interested in the process of identifying and assessing objectives under new ABA Standard

TOPIC EXPLANATION:

This conference aims to bring together faculty from across the curriculum to explore together how to set and assess foundational objectives for law students. The proposed changes to ABA standards make this topic extremely timely.

We will explore questions such as:  What learning objectives make most sense in the first year?  How do we teach them in an integrated way?  What do students need to have “under their belt” before taking a clinic or advanced class?   How do we properly assess whether students have learned?

We will also examine what some law schools have done to better structure their curriculum and prepare to meet the new standards.

PRESENTERS WILL INCLUDE:  Barbara Glesner-Fines, Michael Schwartz, Antoinette Sedillo Lopez, David Thompson, Judith Wegner (Keynote) (See Bios Attached). Requests for Proposed Presentations Will Be Forthcoming.

We will be sure to provide you a warm CELT March welcome!  For questions about transportation or lodging (near, nice and inexpensive) contact Tammy Weinman at twein@albanylaw.edu.
