Northern Illinois University College of Law-Director-Health Advocacy Clinic

Director, Health Advocacy Clinic (HAC):

The Health Advocacy Clinic is a medical-legal partnership based at Hesed House, a homeless shelter in Aurora, Illinois, in collaboration with Aunt Martha's medical clinic and Hesed House social workers. Working alongside healthcare and social-work professionals, the Director and students identify and address the socio-environmental issues — housing, public benefits, and related needs — that contribute to poor health outcomes, representing clients in matters such as public benefits and criminal expungement/sealing. Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred given the client population, but not required. The position is based on-site in Aurora, Illinois, with the clinic seminar class taught at the College of Law in DeKalb, Illinois.

The priority review date for this position is August 15, 2026, with an ideal start of January 1, 2027 (negotiable) and teaching beginning Spring 2027, if possible. Applications received after August 15th will be considered on a rolling basis. This clinical faculty position is a full-time, 12-month appointment fully funded by the University, at the rank of Assistant or Associate Clinical Professor depending on qualifications. This position is on NIU's clinical faculty track — eligible for promotion and for a six-year presumptively renewable contract with security of position under 405(c). Salary starts at $95,000 and is commensurate with experience, with a robust benefits package. More information about the position and a link to the posting is listed below.
