Transactional Clinical Faculty Position Available-Roger Williams University School of Law
Roger Williams University School of Law, located in Providence and Bristol, Rhode Island, seeks to fill the position of Clinical Professor of Law to direct our Business Law Clinic, starting in the summer of 2026. This is a full-time faculty position. Clinical faculty at Roger Williams are eligible for long-term, presumptively renewable contracts and participate fully in faculty governance with the exception of the hiring, retention and promotion of tenure-track faculty.
The Business Law Clinic provides transactional legal services to nonprofit organizations and small businesses in Rhode Island. Under supervision from the faculty director, students work directly with clients on matters such as entity formation, tax exemption, governance, contract review and drafting, and intellectual property issues. Students also work with other professionals and organizations to serve the entrepreneurial and nonprofit community. Students gain actual lawyering skills, including interviewing, counseling, client communication, navigating ethics and professional responsibility issues, researching, planning, and analyzing potential business decisions. Those enrolled in the clinic work on a range of projects for organizational clients, such as determining the best legal entity for a client’s needs, drafting and filing of organizational and governance documents, working on intellectual property issues, and negotiating and drafting agreements. The Business Law Clinic is part of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office Law School Clinic Certification Program, which allows law students to practice Intellectual Property Law before the USPTO with close guidance from the faculty director and outside counsel retained for that purpose.
Applicants must have at least three years of transactional legal practice. Preferred qualifications include either prior experience as a clinical teacher, fellow, or staff attorney, or prior experience training and supervising attorneys in a practice setting.
Candidates should submit a letter, resume, and at least three references to the chairs of appointments, Natasha Varyani (nvaryani@rwu.edu) and Jared Goldstein (jgoldstein@rwu.edu) . Questions may be directed to Andrew Horwitz, Associate Dean for Experiential Education, at ahorwitz@rwu.edu. Roger Williams University School of Law is an equal opportunity employer. Women, persons of color, LGBTQ persons, and others whose backgrounds will contribute to the diversity of the faculty, are strongly encouraged to apply.
