University of Detroit Mercy School of Law - Professor

UNIVERSITY OF DETROIT MERCY SCHOOL OF LAW is seeking candidates for tenure-track positions on the faculty, beginning in the Fall of 2026. We are particularly interested in candidates who can teach courses in any area of the required curriculum, including the required first-year courses (Civil Procedure, Contracts, Criminal Law, Property, Torts) and required upper-level courses (Constitutional Law, Evidence, Professional Responsibility, Bar Exam Strategies). We are also interested in candidates who, in addition to any of the aforementioned doctrinal areas, could also teach a clinic or legal writing in our first-year Applied Legal Theory and Analysis (ALTA) curriculum.

These positions are for our traditional in-person (residential) Juris Doctor program and will require the faculty member to teach in-person at the School of Law. But we would also be open to candidates who – in addition to teaching in the residential J.D. program – are interested in teaching a course in our new Online Juris Doctor (OJD) program, which will launch in Fall 2026 (and which is the subject of a separate, concurrent hiring announcement). Willingness to teach in the OJD program is not, however, a condition for hire in the residential JD program.

Candidates should have a Juris Doctor degree and should send a current CV or resume, along with a cover letter expressing their interest and qualifications, to Professor Richard Broughton, Chair of the Faculty Recruiting Committee, at broughjr@udmercy.edu. Candidates may also submit additional materials such as research statements, prior publications, and teaching evaluations. Applications will be reviewed immediately. We welcome and encourage applications from women, from members of racial and ethnic minority groups, and from any other candidates who will further enhance the diversity of our faculty.
