Washington & Lee University School of Law- Advanced Administrative Litigation Clinic (Black Lung)-Visiting Director
Washington and Lee University School of Law (W&L Law) seeks to hire a Visiting Director of the Advanced Administrative Litigation Clinic (Black Lung) for a one-year term commencing July 1, 2026.
Clinic Description
The Advanced Administrative Litigation Clinic (Black Lung) at Washington and Lee University School of Law provides legal services to coal miners and survivors who are pursuing federal black lung benefits. Its clients are represented by third-year law students, who work closely with a member of the law school faculty licensed to practice law. Students evaluate claims, develop evidence, conduct discovery, depositions, and hearings, write motions, arguments, and appellate briefs.
Description of the Position
The Visiting Director position is a non-tenure-track, one-year fixed term position, to end on June 30, 2027.
The Visiting Director will take over the existing clinic docket and will be the principal supervisor of up to eight students who will assist on cases. Specifically, the Visiting Director will:
· Directly represent coal miners and survivors who are pursuing federal black lung benefits;
· Supervise student attorneys in casework serving this client population; and
· Manage the clinic docket. Conduct a weekly seminar focusing on black lung litigation and trial advocacy.
This is an opportunity for an experienced practitioner who is interested in exploring a career in clinical teaching, or a new clinical teacher who hopes to enter the market for a legal clinic director position in the future. This position has year-round case management responsibilities.

Salary Range
The expected salary range for this position is $100,000 – $120,000, depending on experience, and the salary will be accompanied by the range of employee benefits provided by the University.
Qualifications
The Visiting Director should have:
· A J.D. from an ABA-accredited Law School, where s/he/they excelled academically;
· Relevant practice experience conducting discovery, depositions, and hearings, and writing motions, arguments, and appellate briefs;
· Active Membership in a State Bar or the Bar of the District of Columbia;
