California Western School of Law – Tenure-Track Position – Clinical Internship Program

20 Aug 2015 11:10 AM | Laura McNally-Levine

California Western School of Law is seeking a tenure-track faculty member to teach primarily in our Clinical Internship Program (sometimes called an “externship program”).   In addition, this faculty member will have the opportunity to teach course(s) in the remainder of the Curriculum based on the needs of the school and the faculty member’s interests.

California Western School of Law is located in downtown San Diego, California.  The School has long-emphasized a legal education where our students are trained to be profession-ready upon graduation.  Our Clinical Internship Program is a core part of that mission.  Over 70% of our students enroll in the Clinical Internship Program.  Students are placed as interns in private law firms, public interest organizations, judicial chambers, and government law offices (more information about the program is available at https://www.cwsl.edu/academics/academic-initiatives/clinical-internship-program).  Professors in the Clinical Internship Program teach a classroom component, conduct site visits, and supervise the students’ placements.  Candidates also will have the opportunity to teach within the remainder of the doctrinal Curriculum, including first-year courses.

Preference is for candidates with some experience in practice and/or clinical teaching.  We value all kinds of experience – transactional or litigation, criminal or civil, public or private. Candidates must have some experience in academic research and scholarship. Teaching experience in an academic setting will be considered favorably.

California Western prides itself on the diversity of its community.  A substantial percentage of our students are from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.   We are committed to developing a faculty that better reflects our student body and our community.  We are particularly interested in candidates committed to teaching a diverse student body and who have demonstrated relevant skills in this area.   All candidates are encouraged to submit a statement to our Appointments Committee addressing their contributions to diversity and how they can contribute to the educational experience of our student body.

California Western was established in 1924 and recently celebrated its 90th anniversary.  We are accredited by the American Bar Association and are a member of the Association of American Law Schools.

Interested candidates should submit their cover letter, resume, and academic materials (publications, teaching evaluations, and research agenda) to Professor Ken Klein, Chair of the Faculty Appointments Committee, at kklein@cwsl.edu by September 30, 2015.
