    Texas Tech University School of Law invites applications to serve as Clinical Instructor (HR: Lecturer) and Director of the Texas Tech Low Income Taxpayer Clinic (LITC) (Requisition 32319/Lecturer). The Clinical Instructor (HR: Lecturer) is a non-tenure track faculty position on a 12-month appointment. Lecturers are eligible for continuing appointment. Lecturers on continuing appointment are eligible for promotion to the rank of senior lecturer. The Clinical Instructor/Director position is partly funded by Texas Tech University and partially funded by an IRS grant, a grant which has been successfully renewed for over 20 years.

    The LITC Director duties include supervising and teaching students, managing the LITC docket, providing service to the Law School and the surrounding community, active participation in tax-related programming of the Law School, and working with staff to ensure compliance and renewal of the IRS grant.

    Applicants must have a J.D. degree and be a member in good standing of the bar of any U.S. jurisdiction with a preference for admission to the State Bar of Texas.  Must also be admitted to practice before the U.S. Tax Court or eligible for such admission. Prefer that a candidate have at least three (3) years of practice experience with sufficient tax law expertise to perform and oversee the substantive and procedural aspects of client representation in controversies with the IRS.  Desire a candidate with a commitment to or demonstrated record of exemplary teaching, supervision/mentorship of law students or new attorneys, and institutional or public service.  Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation law students is highly desirable. Service to the School of Law and University is expected and may include relevant extracurricular activities.

    CRIMINAL DEFENSE AND JUSTICE CLINIC FRIEDMAN FELLOW CLINICAL TEACHING POSITION

    George Washington University Law School’s Criminal Defense and Justice Clinic seeks a clinical fellow for the 2023-2025 academic years. In recognition of the generous gift of Philip Friedman, the fellows are known as Friedman Fellows.

    The 2023-2025 Friedman Fellowships begin July 1, 2023. The fellow will be based in the Criminal Defense and Justice Clinic. The Clinic focuses primarily on representing indigent people facing misdemeanor charges in D.C. Superior Court, as well as related policy and advocacy initiatives that promote systemic reform. Friedman Fellows closely supervise law students in their legal work and teach in the classroom alongside experienced clinical faculty.

    We currently seek applications from candidates with strong academic and lawyering experience. Lawyers with background and experience in indigent criminal defense are preferred. A competitive applicant will have relevant experience in criminal defense; teaching; and/or related public interest litigation. We particularly seek applicants who took a clinic in law school and who have an interest in clinical and/or law school teaching.

    Minimum qualifications: J.D.; at least three years practice experience in criminal defense; commitment to serving low-income individuals; strong written and oral advocacy skills; excellent time management, priority-setting, and organizational skills; excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and demonstrated ability to work well independently and as part of a team.

    Throughout their two years in residence, fellows receive specific instruction and guidance in teaching and supervising law students and in writing scholarship for publication. The program provides fellows with mentorship and support from the clinical faculty and administration.

    Fellows receive an annual stipend and are eligible for University employment benefits, such as health insurance, tuition assistance, and other benefits related to law school affiliation. Fellows must be members in good standing of a state bar. Candidates who are not members of the D.C. Bar must be eligible for immediate waiver into the D.C. Bar.

    Position Summary:

    Vermont Law & Graduate School (VLGS) seeks an experienced Staff Attorney and Clinical Faculty to support its new Farmed Animal Advocacy Clinic (FAAC).     Legal Advocacy

    • Interpret laws, ruling, and regulations.

    Teaching and Student Mentorship

    • Develop and teach clinic seminar sessions. 
    • Supervise FAAC students.
    • Encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among employees and students. 
    • Establish long-range objectives and specify the strategies and actions to achieve them. 
    • Create checklists and other instructional materials.
    • Assist students in facilitating relationships with external organizations and constituencies.

    Office Management: 

    • Assist with expense reports/travel reimbursements.
    • Maintain both electronic and paper files.
    • Support fundraising efforts.

    Marketing and Publications:

    • Liaise with marketing and communications team to increase awareness of the FAAC.
    • Draft internal and external documents on behalf of the FAAC.
    • Promote the FAAC, including through presentations and at events. 

    Requirements

    Required Education, Skills and Experience:

    • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an American Bar Association-approved law school.
    • 4 years or more of relevant legal advocacy experience, with substantial weight given to strategic litigation and administrative proceeding experience.
    • Admission to the bar in any US jurisdiction, and admission or willingness to apply for admission to the Vermont bar.
    • Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple complex legal matters, including litigation, and manage partners, students, and co-counsel effectively without extensive supervision.
    • Understanding of and appreciation for inclusion, including the ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds, identities, and viewpoints. 
    • Experience working in Windows/Microsoft environment with expertise in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Calendar, Word, and Excel. Willingness to learn and use VLGS-specific learning management systems such as ExamSoft, Canvas, and others.
    • Experience working with case management (e.g., Clio) and e-discovery software (e.g., Relativity)
    • Ability and willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to changing technological work environment.
    • Outstanding interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively in collaborative relationships.
    • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, manage time effectively, establish priorities, and communicate expectations to stakeholders.
    • Ability to discretely handle confidential information.
    • Demonstrated familiarity with and commitment to the field of animal law and policy generally, and farmed animal advocacy specifically.
    • Ability to supervise students. 
    • Clinical or teaching experience preferred. 
    • Good team member, interpersonal skills, and a sense of humor.

    Position Focus:

    Overseeing operations within the Jerome N. Frank Legal Services Organization (LSO) at Yale Law School. LSO is a law firm that provides a wide range of pro bono legal services to people and organizations in need. Staff management. Fiscal management (including management of bank accounts, budgets, and monthly reports). Firm operations (including overseeing website development process, conflict system, communications, and policy development in consultation with LSO faculty and LSO Director).     Clinic Faculty Position - Family Law Section

    Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, a Jesuit institution, invites applications for a clinic faculty position focused on family law.     The Georgetown Health Justice Alliance (HJA) Law Clinic seeks a two-year clinical teaching fellow to begin in summer 2023 to teach and supervise law clinic students providing civil legal services through an innovative medical-legal partnership. Georgetown Law and HJA are committed to diversity in hiring.

    Clinic Description

    HJA is medical-legal partnership between Georgetown University’s Law and Medical Centers. Launched in August 2017, HJA’s Law Clinic integrates law students directly into Georgetown community-based health clinics serving children and families living in poverty in Washington, D.C. Law students provide civil legal services to address barriers to patient health and well-being in collaboration with medical students, physicians, and other healthcare providers.

    HJA’s local focus not only allows the Clinic to give back to the community it calls home, but also gives students an opportunity to explore and understand the challenges and strengths of the D.C. community beyond the Georgetown Law campus. Students learn not only law’s impacts on the health and well-being of residents, but also the history and policies that have facilitated health injustice and the ways that law can be used instead to promote health equity.

    Patients referred by our medical partners face complex, civil legal needs, many of which negatively impact their health and well-being. Among the needs currently being served are those related to housing, public benefits, education, and family law. By partnering directly with medical providers who provide low-barrier access to healthcare to high needs families in Washington, D.C., the HJA Law Clinic offers a unique method for reducing the barriers to justice confronted by people living in poverty, which contribute to racial economic and health disparities. Medical students rotate into the law clinic and collaborate with law students providing holistic advocacy to client families.

    Description of the Fellowship

    HJA is hiring a clinical teaching fellow / supervising attorney for two years beginning in summer 2023 and ending in summer 2025. The fellowship is ideal for a legal services attorney interested in transition into legal academia and developing teaching and supervisory abilities in a setting that emphasizes a dual commitment—clinical education of law students and poverty lawyering—in the context of an interdisciplinary medical-legal partnership. The fellow will (i) supervise law and medical students in casework and clinic projects and serve as a mentor and role model to law students in the clinic, including students from historically underrepresented backgrounds, (ii) share responsibility for designing and teaching law clinic seminar classes and facilitating case rounds, and (iii) share in the administrative and case handling responsibilities of the Law Clinic and its medical-legal partnership. The teaching team is highly collaborative and uses a team-based approach to pedagogy planning, student supervision, and casework.

    Fellows also participate in a clinical pedagogy seminar and other activities designed to support an interest in clinical teaching and legal education, and are offered support in writing a law review article. Successful completion of the fellowship results in the award of an L.L.M. in Advocacy. Teaching fellows receive an annual stipend of approximately $57,000 in the first year and $60,000 in the second year, health and dental benefits, and all tuition and fees covered in the LL.M. program. In addition to training in clinical pedagogy, fellows have access to programming and support around scholarship and entry into the legal teaching market and professional development opportunities.     • An interest in clinical teaching; and

The clinical program at the Sturm College of Law offers clinics in a variety of areas, including civil litigation, civil rights, community economic development, criminal defense, environmental law, immigration law and policy, and advancing social change.

    Position Summary

    The Sturm College of Law seeks to hire a visiting faculty member, at the level of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor, to teach in its Civil Rights Clinic for the 2023-24 academic year, with the possibility of renewal as a visitor for up to two years. The Civil Rights Clinic is an intensive, year-long litigation program in which students represent clients in civil rights cases in federal court under the supervision of clinical faculty. Currently, the Clinic focuses on the constitutionality of conditions in federal and state prisons, including indefinite solitary confinement, inadequate medical and mental health care, disability discrimination, and the free exercise of religion. In addition to undertaking actual client work, students participate in a seminar designed to develop their litigation skills, gain a deeper understanding of federal civil rights law, and understand the broader political and social contexts of civil rights litigation.

    Essential Functions

    • Supervision of second- and third-year students, with the goals of training students to become ethical, effective, and compassionate advocates and of delivering outstanding client representation
    • Classroom teaching and curriculum development, in collaboration with the Director of the Civil Rights Clinic

    Required Qualifications

    • JD or equivalent degree  
    • 3-5 years of litigation experience in federal court, including practice experience with civil rights and/or constitutional law
    • Demonstrated experience interacting with diverse communities and a commitment to incorporating inclusive teaching methods designed to effectively engage broadly diverse student populations
    • Membership in the Colorado bar or the ability to gain admission by June 1, 2023 (Note:  The state of Colorado permits faculty members teaching in a law school clinical program to waive into the bar.)

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Teaching, training or supervision of law students or early-career lawyers
    • Experience with prisoners’ rights litigation and/or working with incarcerated clients

    Rising for Justice (“RFJ”) invites applications for the Director of our Housing Advocacy and Litigation Clinic (“HALC”). The incumbent will serve on the organization’s leadership team and have responsibility for the management of our long-standing and highly-regarded law school clinical program – a dynamic educational program embedded in our Tenant Justice Program (“TJP”). The Director of HALC is expected to serve as model of excellent workplace practices.

    HALC enrolls student attorneys from Georgetown University Law Center, George Washington University Law School, The University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law, and American University’s Washington College of Law. Students, who are supervised by TJP’s clinical supervising attorneys, represent clients in eviction defense matters as well as housing conditions and other types of tenants’ rights cases.

    Position Responsibilities

    Duties include management of all aspects of the clinical teaching program, including the following:

    • Conducting annual updates and periodic revisions to the clinical curriculum, course syllabi, orientation materials, case practice protocols, and related educational materials to conform with best practices in clinical education and with the specifications of law school partners.
    • Updating policies and protocols to ensure that all aspects of the clinical curriculum are appropriately implemented by the instructional staff.
    • Developing lesson plans and teaching classes.
    • Refining, monitoring, and managing the implementation of standards applicable to case practice and student supervision; mentoring and supporting attorneys.
    • Collaborating with senior managers on strategic planning initiatives related to the development of the organization’s clinical program.
    • Serving as a liaison with all participating law schools to ensure all law school requirements related to student participation in HALC are satisfied on a timely basis.
    • Managing the law student recruitment process and all administrative processes related to clinic operations.
    • Supervision of attorneys, administrative staff and paralegals; oversight of all HALC operations to ensure conformity with organizational policy.
    • Serving as a clinical supervising attorney.

    Qualification Requirements

    JD with at least 10 years combined litigation and law school teaching experience.  Applicant should have a strong work ethic and be an innovator with excellent communication skills and a keen attention to detail. Clinical teaching and management experience, a background in housing law, and fluency in Spanish preferred.
