    The University of California, Irvine School of Law invites applications for a full-time clinical faculty position, with security of employment or potential for security of employment, to begin on July 1, 2023.

    The UCI Law clinical program is currently ranked 5th in the nation. From its founding, the law school has had as a graduation requirement that each student participate in at least one semester of clinical education in which she assists clients in solving legal problems. We currently offer ten clinical courses that fulfill the requirement: Appellate Litigation, Civil Rights Litigation, Community & Economic Development, Criminal Justice, Domestic Violence, Environmental Law, Immigrant Rights, Intellectual Property Arts & Technology, International Justice, and Workers, Law, and Organizing. The candidate selected will either create a new clinic or co-teach in one of the law school’s existing clinics, and will assist in the planning and development of the overall clinical program.

    Appointment, merit, and promotion in the Clinical Professor of Law series requires, in addition to excellence in teaching and service, that the candidate makes outstanding and externally recognized contributions in research/creative activity in pedagogy and/or the discipline.

    Applicants must hold a J.D. and be licensed to practice law in California by the end of their first year of employment. At least five years of practice experience and two years of clinical teaching experience are strongly preferred, but all applicants must have demonstrated potential for outstanding teaching achievements.     THE UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT SCHOOL OF LAW seeks candidates for a Director of a clinic focused on transactional practice, beginning August 23, 2023.

    This position can take two different forms. The first is a non-tenure track faculty position subject to the Law School’s Policy on Long-Term Contracts for Non-Tenure Track Clinical Faculty, which complies with ABA Standard 405(c) by providing security of position, perquisites, and participation in faculty governance similar to tenure. The second is a tenure-track version of the position, for candidates who would like more emphasis placed on scholarly capacity and commitment as components of their work and criteria for evaluation. 

    Whether the position is of the non-tenure-track or tenure-track mold, the person filling it may be hired at the rank of assistant, associate, or full clinical professor, depending on experience. The UConn School of Law is especially interested in candidates who will add to the diversity of our faculty. We welcome applications from women, individuals with disabilities, veterans, and other individuals underrepresented in the legal academy, as well as candidates with experiences, backgrounds, and viewpoints that will enrich the diversity of our community. 

    We have a rich tradition of transactional clinical offerings at UConn Law, in tandem, historically, with external organizations based in the Hartford area. Moving forward, we are excited to expand our “in-house” opportunities—among other things, because it will help satisfy the considerable demand among our students for transactional experience during law school. We are open to all manner of transactional work, connected to any substantive area of law. Whatever the clinic’s exact focus, the Director will join a robust and collegial team of clinical faculty, focused on criminal justice, immigration, and tax, among other offerings. 

    Position duties include planning and teaching clinic classes and supervising clinic casework, with substantial opportunity to engage in program design and development of further initiatives and growth in clinical programs. The Director also participates in public service activities; serves on faculty committees; counsels students; and is encouraged to teach additional courses outside the clinic consistent with the Director’s availability and interests and curricular need. 

    For the non-tenure-track version of the position, opportunities and support for scholarly research and writing will certainly be provided, although other contributions to legal education, the legal profession, and society are equally valued in awarding long-term contract status. For the tenure-track version, there will be a greater emphasis placed on scholarly output and engagement in the evaluation of promotion and tenure.

    GEORGETOWN LAW seeks applications for a tenure-track or tenured lateral or entry-level faculty to direct a civil litigation clinic starting during the 2023-24 academic year.

    Georgetown Law is especially interested in candidates to teach a civil litigation clinic with a focus on access to justice and economic justice for low- and moderate-income individuals and communities, including taking cases involving consumer debt, consumer financial transactions, employment law, housing, and public benefits. The clinic could involve some policy work with local, state, and federal protection agencies but the bulk of the clinic’s work should be civil litigation with a focus on teaching students litigation skills. The appropriate scope of clinic work would respond to the D.C. Access to Justice Commission’s 2019 report calling for increased availability of civil legal services in D.C. and expanding systemic work to close the justice gap.

    The Faculty Appointments Committee is particularly interested in candidates with prior civil litigation experience in the relevant practice areas and prior clinical teaching experience. Candidates must demonstrate a record of strong academic performance and either an excellent scholarly record (if a lateral candidate) or excellent potential for scholarly achievement (if an entry-level candidate).

    THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS COLLEGE OF LAW seeks a dynamic and accomplished legal practitioner to develop and direct a new clinic in First Amendment law. The clinic, supported by a generous grant from the Stanton Foundation, will focus on rights of speech, press, and assembly, and involve direct representation of parties in litigation. Responsibilities will include leadership of the clinic, management of the clinic’s caseload, supervision of students and a clinical fellow, and delivery of relevant course instruction. Applicants must have a J.D., be licensed in Illinois within one year of hire, have substantial experience as a practicing lawyer, and have experience or a strong interest in teaching, mentoring and supervising law students.

    WASHBURN UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW invites applications for an associate professor to teach Legal Writing beginning in the 2023-2024 academic year. Washburn Law has a unitary tenure track with scholarship support including summer writing stipends, year-round research assistants, and funding for travel to conferences.     WASHBURN UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW invites applicants for an associate professor to teach in the Washburn Law Clinic and to teach complementary doctrinal courses, beginning in the 2023-2024 academic year. Washburn Law has a unitary tenure track with scholarship support including summer writing stipends, year-round research assistants, and funding for travel to conferences. This nine-month tenured/tenure-track position is one of three open tenured/tenure-track positions in the School of Law.

    We are particularly interested in applicants qualified to teach in a criminal defense clinic, but all areas of subject expertise will be considered. We seek engaging candidates whose performance to date has demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, scholarship, and service or the potential for achievement in each of these job functions.     Founded in 1970, Washburn University School of Law’s in-house, live client clinical program has been an integral part of the law school curriculum staffed by tenured and tenure-track positions. Washburn Law Clinic practice areas include Family Justice & Immigration, Civil Practice, Criminal Defense, and Small Business & Nonprofit Transactional Law. Washburn also hosts a Criminal Appeals Advocacy Clinic administered in cooperation with the Kansas Appellate Defender Office.
