Position Description:

This academic and administrative position includes the following responsibilities:

• Teach two sections of Business Planning, the capstone course of the Business Law Practicum, which uses a simulated deal format to examine the organization and financing of a growth-oriented start-up business;
• Recruit, train, supervise, and mentor experienced lawyers who will teach additional sections of Business Planning as adjunct faculty;
• Provide teaching support and conduct regular evaluations of adjunct faculty teaching Business Planning and communicate this feedback to the Associate Dean to maintain high standards of teaching in all sections of the Business Planning course;
• Coordinate with the Associate Dean to schedule sufficient sections to accommodate student demand for the course (presently seven sections are offered each academic year);
• Engage in outreach to students (both current and prospective) as well as law firms and other prospective employers to promote the Business Law Practicum;
• Maintain and expand the Business Law Practicum website;
• Collaborate with LLS faculty who teach business law-related subjects to expand opportunities for students to enroll in classes that offer experiential learning by creating new courses that use a simulated deal format;

Requisite Qualifications:

Applicants are expected to have a distinguished academic background, including a J.D. from an accredited law school, and to have practiced corporate transactional law at a sophisticated level for at least eight to ten years, with extensive experience in venture capital financing transactions, equity incentive arrangements, and mergers and acquisitions, and preferably strong familiarity with both California and Delaware law. Applicants with prior teaching experience are strongly preferred. A significant element of the student experience in enrolling in courses offered in the Business Law Practicum is the opportunity that such classes provide for law students to receive detailed and highly-individualized feedback from the professor on their written work product in a manner that is consistent with what an experienced supervising attorney would provide to junior associates. As a result, extensive experience in supervising and managing junior transactional attorneys is an important aspect of an outstanding candidate’s background, as well as the demonstrated ability to offer professional development guidance to junior associates. Candidates who are licensed to practice law in California are strongly preferred. Given the administrative responsibilities associated with the position of Director of the Business Law Practicum, meaningful administrative or managerial experience is also preferred.

California Western School of Law is seeking a tenure-track faculty member to teach in our Clinical Internship Program, and who has experience and interest in teaching Family Law or Business Law.

Syracuse University College of Law invites applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor for the Disability Rights Clinic.  This is a full time, temporary appointment during the spring 2015 semester.

The Disability Rights Clinic (DRC) is one of nine clinical courses in the College of Law.  It is dedicated to providing an exceptional educational experience through representation of individuals with disabilities as well as groups representing the disabled community.  Students enrolled in the DRC handle a case load consisting of employment discrimination, disability-related access to state and local government services and places of public accommodation, special education, and prisoners with disabilities.  Students advocate for clients with disabilities in administrative and judicial proceedings, and engage with the local community in educational advocacy.

The Visitor will supervise students on existing case work, identify appropriate legal work, teach the twice weekly seminar, and participate with other clinical faculty in the operation of the Office of Clinical Legal Education.

J.D. is required and a minimum of five years of relevant practice experience in disability rights law. Experience or an interest in teaching is necessary, particularly using clinical methodologies.  Attorneys who are faculty in the law clinics must be highly qualified, experienced and motivated.
