    WASHBURN UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW invites applicants for an associate professor to teach in the Washburn Law Clinic and to teach complementary doctrinal courses, beginning in the 2023-2024 academic year. Washburn Law has a unitary tenure track with scholarship support including summer writing stipends, year-round research assistants, and funding for travel to conferences.     THE UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON LAW CENTER (UHLC) invites applications for a promotion-eligible, non-tenure track clinical assistant/associate professor position and Director of the Immigration Clinic for the academic year 2023-2024.  The contract is for nine months, 9/1/2023 to 5/31/2024, the "FY 24 Contract," beginning when classes start in late August 2023 and continuing through the middle of May 2024. 

    The Immigration Clinic handles all types of family‐based and humanitarian cases, with emphasis on asylum, withholding of removal, and Convention Against Torture cases, in addition to other violence‐related claims, such as Violence Against Women’s Act, Special Immigrant Juvenile cases, humanitarian parole, and crime victims (U visas). The clinic also handles T visas, and has helped in a variety of Crimmigration cases where the respondents were detained in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention and needed a habeas petition in federal district court.

    The Immigration Clinic has a classroom component that meets for two hours a week for 14 weeks over the course of the semester.  The classroom component focuses on teaching advocacy skills and substantive immigration law to equip students to represent immigrants before the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Justice's Executive Office for Immigration Review and other federal agencies.

    The position will cover the classroom component of the clinical instruction and the case supervision component. The position will also supervise at least two staff attorneys and manage grants that fund the clinic’s work.

    The non-tenure track appointment will have a one-year probationary contract period with no presumption of renewal. However, based upon continued positive evaluations of the appointee, the position may lead to additional annual contract periods followed by a presumptively renewable multi-year contract.  The initial salary range for this position is expected to be approximately $80,000 for a nine-month academic year for the Assistant level.  Candidates with sufficient direct experience for hiring at the Associate level will be considered for salary commensurate with experience and UHLC salaries for these positions. Subject to generally applicable policies at UHLC, this promotion eligible NTT faculty position is eligible to receive an annual allotment for travel and professional development and eligible to participate in a summer research program which awards funds to faculty to support their scholarship. An attorney appointed to the position must, at a minimum, hold a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school. As an NTT position, the appointee will accrue no time toward tenure at the University of Houston.

    Tribal Law Clinic

    The University of Idaho College of Law seeks to hire a tenure-track or tenured faculty member to direct a Tribal Law Clinic, at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, depending on experience. The faculty member will have wide latitude to work with local, regional, and/or national tribal communities and organizations to shape the vision, focus, and pedagogical direction of the clinic. Possible clinic focuses include tribal economic development, tribal family mediation, tribal governance, tribal courts, or tribal natural resources. The faculty member will coordinate with the UI Native American Law (“NAL”) Program Director to ensure broad programmatic support of the clinic, share leadership roles in other NAL Program projects, and advance NAL Program strategic goals.     Agricultural Law

    The University of Idaho College of Law and Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology seek a tenure-track Agricultural Law faculty member beginning Fall 2023, with a tenure home in the College of Law. Entry-level and experienced candidates are encouraged to apply. The faculty member would teach an Agricultural Law course, one additional course in the College of Law in a related field, and one course in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology.     Housing Clinic

    The University of Idaho College of Law seeks to hire a tenure-track faculty member to direct a Housing-Related Law Clinic. The successful candidate could be an entry-level Assistant Professor rank on a tenure track, or an Associate or Full Professor rank with tenure, depending on the candidate's qualifications. This position involves directing a housing-related clinic, which could include landlord-tenant, reentry, veterans, or benefits issues. The faculty member must supervise the clinic, teach one additional course on a related subject, mentor and advise students, produce scholarship, and conduct community outreach.     Position Summary

    The Nonprofit Clinic engages law students, as well as graduate students from our Conflict and Dispute Resolution master’s program, the University’s Department of Planning, Public Policy and Management, and the Lundquist School of Business. Working on interdisciplinary teams, students serve Oregon-based nonprofits by conducting highly tailored governance assessments that include detailed written reports along with in-person presentations to boards of directors. In addition to this Spring clinical course, this new Director will develop and teach a new Fall semester clinical course for law students that will provide follow-up legal assistance on a range of business legal matters for nonprofits. The Director will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Clinic, including outreach across the U of O campus and the Oregon nonprofit community.

    The Director position will be a 9-month, funding contingent, career non-tenure track Assistant Clinical Professor position that reports to the Director of Experiential Education. An additional month of summer salary will be offered to finalize Spring projects and prepare for Fall.

    THE UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT SCHOOL OF LAW invites applicants for a visiting position to serve as the Teaching Fellow in the new Housing and Eviction Defense Clinic, an intensive law school clinical program focusing on housing cases and eviction defense, beginning in the fall of 2022.  This is a full-time, non-tenure track position, funded by an eighteen-month federal grant.  There is no assurance of continued employment beyond the end of the grant period.  This position will offer an attorney with an interest in clinical teaching and housing law the opportunity to teach, supervise students and work with experienced faculty members in a law school clinical program.  

    The School of Law is especially interested in candidates who will add to the diversity of our faculty and community.  We welcome applications from people of color, women, LGBTQI+ individuals, people with disabilities, and other individuals underrepresented in the legal academy, as well as candidates with experiences, backgrounds, and viewpoints that will enrich the diversity of our community. 

    The Housing and Eviction Defense Clinic will be one of 19 clinics and field placement programs operated by the Law School, including a robust in-house clinical program that comprises clinics focusing on asylum, criminal defense, tax, intellectual property and animal law, and clinics run in partnership with non-profits affiliated with the law school that focus on child advocacy, environmental law, elder law, veterans’ benefits and disability rights. UConn Law was an early leader nationally in clinical legal education, and its clinics and field placement programs continue to garner recognition statewide for training lawyers and providing outstanding service to members of the community.

    This is an exciting opportunity in a new clinic that will have an immediate impact on tenants and establish a pipeline to train future eviction defense attorneys.  Position duties include conducting client intake interviews and making referrals, providing short advice to unrepresented tenants, planning and co-teaching clinic classes and supervising clinic students’ casework.  The fellow will work closely with the Clinic’s faculty director and will have opportunities to collaborate with faculty and students in the Law School.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • A J.D. degree;
    • Membership in the Connecticut bar or the ability to become a member within three months of hire (Connecticut’s bar admission rules allow faculty members to be admitted without taking the Connecticut bar examination in some circumstances);
    • Excellent written and oral communication and advocacy skills;
    • Demonstrated commitment to public interest or pro bono legal work;
    • Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Clinical or other relevant teaching experience;
    • Experience in housing and/or eviction defense law;
    • An outstanding law school and/or law practice record.

    APPOINTMENT TERMS

    The position is at the Law School campus in Hartford.  This is a non-tenure track position, on a 18-month basis.  Annual salary is $65,000.  Benefits include health insurance and research support.
