We are seeking a candidate who exhibits national leadership and distinction in consumer law and who has prior experience representing consumers and publishing scholarly articles concerning the interests of consumers in legal matters.     Director of Legal Residency Program (Externships) and External Field Clinical Programs

    This position is a faculty appointment in which the successful candidate is on an alternate security line (similar to clinical tenure) and is also a Program Director responsible for the following: counseling and supervising student externs; developing and maintaining school year legal residencies; teaching clinical externship courses; recruiting and supervising adjunct externship supervisors and teachers; and supervising the development and expansion of external field clinical programs in cooperation with the law school’s existing clinical offerings.     The Director of the Intellectual Property Clinic is a full-time member of the law-school faculty who represents, and supervises and trains students to represent, clients in a variety of IP matters.     HARVARD LAW SCHOOL invites applications for a full-time clinical faculty member who will also serve as faculty director of the Law School’s Health Law and Policy Clinic. The faculty appointment may be a Clinical Professor of Law, Assistant Clinical Professor of Law, or Visiting Assistant Clinical Professor of Law, depending on the candidate’s extent and type of experience.

    The Health Law and Policy Clinic:

    The Faculty Director works independently and with faculty, staff and students of the Health Law and Policy Clinic and the Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation (CHLPI) to teach about and advocate for legal, regulatory, and policy reforms to expand access to high-quality healthcare; to reduce health disparities; and to promote more equitable and effective health and public health systems.     Role and Responsibilities:

    The Faculty Director will work with clinic staff and students to manage the legal work and operations of the Clinic. The Faculty Director will supervise clinical instructors, staff attorneys, clinical fellows and administrative team members and will have primary responsibility for identifying and leading various projects and initiatives of the clinic as well as fund-raising operations.

    The Faculty Director will teach or co-teach clinical courses relating to the work of the Clinic and may have the opportunity to teach additional courses at the Law School, as proposed and approved through regular curricular planning and approval processes.

    The Faculty Director will coordinate with the faculty director and clinical staff of the Harvard Law School Food Law and Policy Clinic to pursue programming and cross-cutting initiatives of mutual interest to the Clinics, the shared objectives of CHLPI, and of benefit to HLS students. The Faculty Director may also have opportunities to collaborate with other complementary HLS clinics and relevant programs from across Harvard’s schools and disciplines. Based on the experience and qualifications of the candidate, the Faculty Director may serve as co-director or associate director of CHLPI.

    The Faculty Director will understand and incorporate racial justice and equality goals into the teaching and clinical initiatives and work.

    Beyond CHLPI, the clinical faculty member will have access to the many opportunities for engagement, collaboration, and community through the wider clinical program and intellectual life of Harvard Law School.  As a faculty member, the successful candidate will have opportunities to participate in various faculty programs, initiatives, and (unless the appointment is to a visiting position) governance.

    Qualifications

    All applicants must have:

    • A minimum of five years of practice experience in health law and policy.
    • A J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
    • Admission to the Massachusetts bar, OR
    • Eligibility to practice and supervise students under Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Rule 3:04.

    SUFFOLK UNIVERSITY LAW SCHOOL’s nationally ranked Clinical Programs welcomes applications for a Visiting Clinical Professor at any faculty rank to launch a new Environmental Law Clinic during the 2023-24 academic year.  The Environmental Law Clinic (ELC) would be one of two new clinics for the 2023-24 school year, bringing to 14 the number of in-house clinics designed to meet growing student demand. The visitor will supervise, mentor, and advise clinical students in their case and project work and teach the related clinical seminar. The Visitor may teach a non-clinical course in a related subject area, but this is not a requirement.

    Position Description:

    The visitor would design, launch, and direct Suffolk’s new ELC. The ELC would be a full-year clinic offered for 10 credits (5 credits/semester) serving students in their last 2 years of law school. Students enrolled in the ELC would work on a variety of environmental law matters, potentially including administrative matters at the state and federal levels, litigation, and policy and advocacy projects. We envision the visitor will establish a “hybrid” style Clinic in which students will partner with local and national law offices and agencies that perform legal work, and that students will benefit from the joint supervision by the visitor and on-site supervisors. The clinic would partner with private firms, non-profit organizations, as well as governmental agencies. Students may also engage in in-house project-based work. The design and docket of the ELC will be determined in part by the visitor’s expertise and interests, in consultation with the Associate Dean for Experiential Learning.

    Requirements/Qualifications:

    • Eligible candidates must possess a JD and be admitted, or willing and qualified to seek admission, to the Massachusetts Bar.
    • Successful candidates will have at least five (5) years of legal experience in one or more areas of environtmantal law.

    The Director will have the opportunity to join the vibrant and supportive clinical community at the School of Law.     Qualifications

    Launched in 2012, the Investor Rights Clinic represents under-served investors in securities arbitration claims against their brokers before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), the largest forum for arbitration of securities claims in the United States.  Most of the Clinic’s clients are retirees with limited income and assets and no meaningful prior investment experience. In addition to individual claims, the Clinic seeks to improve the law and give voice to small investors through strategies such as comment letters on rules proposed by federal and state regulators, amicus briefs and advocacy on Capitol Hill. The Clinic also conducts financial literacy and community education focused primarily on preventing fraudulent investment schemes and broker misconduct targeting the elderly and other vulnerable populations. 


    Offered as a one-semester, six credit course, the Clinic provides second and third-year law students with the opportunity to develop a range of professional and legal skills including client interviewing and counseling, fact development and analysis, motion practice, negotiation, and oral and written arbitration advocacy skills.  The Clinic has a classroom component where students learn lawyering skills and substantive law on federal and state securities law and broker-dealer regulation. For the field component, students work in teams on all aspects of the arbitration from intake to final settlement or arbitration.

     

    The Director will join the vibrant and supportive Miami Law clinical program, currently ranked in the top 30 on U.S. News and World Reports list of best clinical training programs. The Director will have the opportunity to articulate a vision to take the Investor Right Clinic’s strong foundation to the next level and build on the Clinic’s national reputation.  In collaboration with an Associate Director, the Director will run all aspects of the clinic including the teaching of clinic classes, supervising students, managing claims and projects, and representing clients in arbitration matters. The position is designed for a lawyer with deep practice or clinical experience in securities law or related fields. The candidate should have teaching experience or a demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in law school clinical teaching. The Director will have the opportunity to participate in the academic life of the law school and in relevant academic and advocacy conferences.

    Qualifications

    Applicants should have

    ·       At least five years of legal practice experience;

    ·       Significant experience in securities law, broker-dealer regulation or related field;

    ·       Teaching experience or an enthusiasm for clinical teaching, student development, and training;

    ·       A demonstrated commitment to social justice and public service;

    ·       Strong oral and written communication skills;

    ·       Demonstrated organizational skills or experience managing a team of attorneys and other professionals; and

    ·       A Florida Bar license (or willingness to sit for the Florida Bar).

    Commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is an Educator Faculty appointment at the Associate Professor of Professional Practice rank.     THE UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI SCHOOL OF LAW’S Clinical Program is pleased to announce that it is hiring a faculty position as Lecturer in Law and Associate Director of its Immigration Clinic, one of ten clinics offered at Miami Law. The position is anticipated to start in either January 2023 or May to mid-August 2024. Applicants will be considered on a rolling basis until the position is filled.     Launched in 2009, the Immigration Clinic represents low-income immigrants in immigration court and before the Board of Immigration Appeals. The clinic engages in affirmative individual and class action litigation in the U.S. District Courts and the U.S. Courts of Appeals.

    In addition to working on litigation, clinic students, collaborate with other immigrant rights groups on projects that reform the law and advance the cause of social justice for immigrants.
