    NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW invites applications for the Michael and Mary Schuette Clinical Fellowship in Health and Human Rights, beginning September 1, 2019, in the Bluhm Legal Clinic’s Center for International Human Rightswith a particular focus on the work of the Northwestern Access to Health ProjectThe Michael and Mary Schuette Fellow will have a unique opportunity to gain extensive training and experience in global health, human rights law and economic development, as well as clinical legal teaching.

    The Schuette Fellow will work on issues related to global health, human rights and development as they pertain to ongoing community global health work in Nigeria, Botswana, China, India and Lebanon, as well as other potential sites.  A demonstrated interest in global health law, international human rights, and fluency in French and/or Spanish is preferred.     CALIFORNIA WESTERN SCHOOL OF LAW (CWSL) seeks to hire a full-time Program Director for its Competitive Advocacy Program. CWSL has earned a national reputation for the successes of its competition teams and also for its commitment to developing law students into practice-ready lawyers. The Executive Director will have the opportunity to lead a program that has an established foundation of excellence.

    The Program Director will advise and oversee the administration of CWSL’s student-run Moot Court Honors Board (MCHB), oversee the teaching of CWSL’s competitive advocacy courses, assist in managing and providing logistical support for all of CWSL’s trial, appellate, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) teams, and administer and manage all budgets associated with the Competitive Advocacy Program. The Program Director may also have the opportunity to teach courses in their area of expertise as an Adjunct Professor.

    Applicants must have a J.D. degree from an ABA accredited law school, and significant experience in trial practice, appellate practice, or ADR. Experience in administering and developing competitive advocacy programs is highly desirable. Teaching experience is also valuable.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    The Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University seeks a Clinical Instructor to join our Cyberlaw Clinic team. The position reports to the Managing Director of the Harvard Law School Cyberlaw Clinic, which is based at the Berkman Klein Center.

    The Clinical Instructor's primary responsibility will be to supervise, manage, mentor, and teach Harvard Law School students enrolled in the Clinic as they represent clients in a variety of challenging matters, including in the areas of intellectual property, digital civil liberties, privacy and security, new media and online speech, government innovation, and online safety.

    The substance of the Clinical Instructor's work will vary from matter to matter, but may include overseeing students in their counselling of clients, drafting of contracts, licenses and other transactional documents, preparation of amicus briefs, comments and other filings, and support for policy advocacy efforts.

    The Clinical Instructor will meet regularly with students to direct and supervise their work, observe students in client interactions, review students' written and other work product, provide regular and detailed feedback to students on their projects and performance, deliver instruction in basic legal skills and Internet-related practice, and ensure professional, high-quality representation of Clinic clients.

    The Clinical Instructor will help develop new Cyberlaw Clinic cases and clients consistent with the Instructor's own areas of interest and expertise, and maintain relationships with the Clinic's existing clients and external partners. They will also assist the Managing Director and Assistant Director with the administration of the Clinic's practice and teaching operations, and the alignment of the Clinic's work with its core values, including promotion of a robust and inclusive online ecosystem for free expression the advancement of diversity and mitigation of the impact of bias in tech development and tech policy advocacy for open government and support for cultural production through balanced regulatory and enforcement regimes.

    The Clinical Instructor will be part of the intellectual community at the Berkman Center and will have the opportunity to attend workshops and conferences at the Center and at Harvard Law School and will have frequent opportunities to expand their knowledge of technology and law.

Our Immigrant Rights Project is a one-semester clinic in which students represent noncitizens in immigration matters, conduct legal consultations with ICE detainees in our local jail and participate in local and national advocacy projects.     THE UNIVERSITY OF SAN FRANCISCO SCHOOL OF LAW is seeking to hire a Director of Externship Programs & Assistant Professor of Law.  This is a full-time non-tenure track, term academic position.  The Director oversees and administers the operation of the Externship Programs in accordance with academic policies determined by the School of Law faculty.The Externship Programs include the Civil and Criminal Law Externship Program and the Judicial Externship Program.

    Job Responsibilities

    Clinical Teaching and Supervision

    The Director is responsible for teaching and leading the academic course for students enrolled in Externship Programs, including students externing outside of the Bay Area who are unable to attend class sessions.  The courses focus on lawyering skills, professionalism and ethics relevant to student externship assignments and legal practice.  The Director will provide supplemental curricula for externship programs and clinics for specific practice areas and, when appropriate, supervise faculty teaching those courses.

    Program Policy Evaluation and Development

    The Director is responsible for:

    • approving and monitoring externship placements, including conducting site visits, training supervisors and identifying and addressing issues that arise during an externship;
    • counseling students considering enrollment in an externship;
    • creating and supervising new externship programs and clinics for specific practice areas;
    • creating, supervising, and developing curricula for full-time externships and externships outside of the Bay Area (including students externing internationally through this program);
    • serving as a contact person for students and the public at-large for the Externship Programs;
    • collaborating with and supervising other faculty and administrators on the development and promotion of the law school’s clinical legal education curriculum;
    • and participating in national academic discourse regarding externship programs through conferences, on-line discussions, scholarship, and the Bay Area Consortium of Externships (BACE);
    • preparing memoranda, collecting data and other material, and maintaining records about specific externship sites, student performance, and the Externship Programs in general; and is charged with ensuring that all the School of Law Externship Programs comply with ABA Standards and AALS Bylaws.

    Minimum Requirements

    J.D. degree and membership in at least one state bar. Excellent organizational, communication and collaborative skills. Ability to work effectively with both internal and external constituents. Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and ability to work with diverse populations. Understanding of, and ability to work for, the mission and goals of the University of San Francisco School of Law. Demonstrated good judgment and common sense. A professional demeanor and demonstrated energetic creativity, integrity, reliability, initiative, diligence, and respect for others. Experience working with law students preferred.     HARVARD LAW SCHOOL (HLS) seeks to hire a Clinical Instructor to serve as the founding director of our new LGBTQ+ Advocacy Clinic.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    The new LGBTQ+ Advocacy Clinic will provide students with opportunities to develop practical lawyering skills that respond to the unmet needs of the LGBTQ+ communities. The Clinic can be structured as a traditional externship program or as a hybrid program that offers both an in-house clinical component and externship placements. The precise shape of the Clinic and its docket will be based on the skills and interests of the Clinical Instructor, an assessment of community priorities, student lawyering opportunities, and on-going feedback from clinic students, the community stakeholders and others. Under the Clinical Instructor's leadership, the structure of the Clinic may evolve over time to ensure the best fit among community need, student practice interests and pedagogical goals.

    Candidates should have extensive experience advocating on behalf of LGBTQ+ communities and a commitment to expanding educational opportunities for law students in this area. Candidates should have the ability to form relationships with LGBTQ+ organizations, to develop externships placements and to pursue collaborative projects with community organizations, service providers, HLS in-house clinics, the pro bono private bar, etc. The Clinical Instructor will direct the Clinic, manage its day-to-day operation, supervise and mentor Clinic students. Pending nomination and faculty review, the Clinical Instructor will serve as a Lecturer on Law, teaching an accompanying clinical seminar on LGBTQ+ Advocacy.

    The Clinical Instructor will join HLS's vibrant clinical community. HLS offers over 30 separate clinics through which over 1000 students per year provide high-quality, free legal services to thousands of people each year. HLS clinics also work on cutting edge law reform efforts across the United states and the world. This large and diverse clinical legal education program provides numerous opportunities for connection, collaboration and pedagogical innovation.

    • Serve as Founding Director of the Clinic
    • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external organizations working on LGBTQ+ advocacy;
    • Develop collaborative projects with external LGBTQ+ organizations
    • Cultivate collaborative projects across HLS in-house clinics working on LGBTQ+ advocacy;
    • Lead and manage the day-to-day operational and administrative tasks of the Clinic, including student outreach, communications, clinical policy compliance with internal and external requirements, and other tasks that arise;
    • Match students to clinical projects
    • Supervise clinical students on projects and train students on broad range of lawyering skills including problem-solving, law and policy analysis, research and writing, oral communication, and leadership;
    • Mentor HLS students and build an inclusive community
    • Teach Clinical seminar, pending faculty committee review
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice Dean concerning the work of the Clinic


    Basic Qualifications
    J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school earned at least three years ago, and a minimum of 3 years of related work experience. Active membership in at least one Bar with eligibility to be admitted to the Massachusetts Bar.
